Our Nation’s Armed Forces

Posted on Facebook on May 23, 2013

All Americans owe our security to the skills, dedication and work ethic of our armed forces. As abundant domestic natural gas creates more than 1 million U.S. jobs across our nation in the years to come, natural gas companies are looking for a few good men and women. Thanks to their training and strong character, many of those people come from our nation's armed forces. Raise Your Glass to Using More Nat Gas

Posted on Blog on May 22, 2013

If ever there were a Texan with a story to share it would be George P. Mitchell. In case you haven’t heard, Mitchell is kind of a big deal and has even been called the “Father of Shale Gas.” After receiving a hat tip from our revered Texas Gov. Rick Perry in an Austin ceremony last Monday (although Daughter Sheridan Lorenz accepted applause on the House floor on her father’s behalf, pictured below, right) we thought that we would take some time to highlight some of Mitchell’s greatest accomplishments.

  • The first to use horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing to unlock the natural gas trapped in the Barnett Shale
  • Drilled an estimated 10,000 wells onshore, including 1,000 wildcats
  • Funded over $400 million for projects focused on water conservation, carbon capture and sequestration with the Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation
  • Main developer of The Woodlands, Texas
  • $35 million commitment towards the $82.5 million Mitchell Physics Buildings at Texas A&M University
  • $20 million commitment to support namesake George P. and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Institute for Fundamental Physics and Astronomy

Sure, this “History-Making Texan” – officially declared by the Texas State History Museum Foundation this February – would be respected in any circle, but why are we so excited? Well, without Mitchell’s strides in the fields of natural gas development, we would not be able to produce the amount of natural gas necessary to support the NGV revolution. His accomplishments have paved the way for cleaner power generation, the conversion of transportation fleets to an alternative fuel, and economic stimulation in the creation of jobs in the natural gas industry.

So join in on the Texas’ celebration, raise your glass and use more nat gas – in honor of George P. Mitchell!

Texas Ranks 2nd in the U.S. for Overall Economic Performance, Study Finds

Posted on Latest News on May 9, 2013

Congrats to our great state for ranking number two in a nationwide study on economic performance!

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce just released its fourth annual Enterprising States report showing Texas ranked second among all states based on a measure of how states’ economies have fared in terms of jobs, gross domestic product, income and productivity.

The Lone Star State ranked very strongly across all performance metrics and placed in the top five for growth in short and long-term jobs. Since natural gas and oil development are integral to our state’s prosperity, we’re certainly not surprised by these numbers. In fact, in South Texas alone last year, natural gas supported nearly 116,508 full-time jobs. And since Texas provides about 30 percent of the natural gas the U.S. produces today – we also ranked number two in “exports.”

According to the report, along with ranking second in exports, Texas ranked sixth in innovation and entrepreneurship, fifth in business climate, 23rd in talent pipeline, and 14th in infrastructure. Pretty amazing considering the size of Texas! Compared to the study's number one overall economic performer, North Dakota, Texas’s total population is about 40 times larger.

As the second most populated state, Texas’s unemployment rate stands at 6.4 percent, which is well below the nation’s rate of 7.6 percent.

Keep it up Texans!

Texas Stars

Posted on Facebook on May 3, 2013

The stars at night, are big and bright (clap, clap, clap, clap)… Deep in the Heart of Texas! This month, we’ll be spotlighting some of the stars in the natural gas industry! Our first star is Apache Corporation. They have made huge strides supporting the environment by planting trees throughout the country. Since the program was founded in 2005, they have awarded more than 3 million trees to non-profit organizations in 16 states where the company has operations. The trees selected are native to the areas where they were donated so they may reach their maximum potential for growth. The three millionth tree was planted in Houston Memorial Park in January. Great job, Apache Corporation!
